Traffic Advisory: East-bound Direction
of Farrington Highway in Ewa to Temporarily Reopen

The east-bound lane of Farrington Highway in Ewa between Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) and Old Fort Weaver Road Loop will be temporarily reopened to the driving public starting this afternoon, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) announced today.

Beginning at 2 p.m. today, motorists will be able to access Farrington Highway in Ewa in the east-bound direction, and will be detoured onto the Old Fort Weaver Road intersection near the Kahi Mohala Behavioral Center (see attached map). That section of Farrington Highway between East Kapolei and Waipahu was closed earlier this month to allow rail project contractor Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. to safely relocate a major water line and conduct other work along the narrow two-lane road.

Following the utility relocation work, the contractor is scheduled to re-close that section of Farrington Highway later this year for drill shaft and column construction as part of the planned rail guideway. Construction along that stretch of highway for the Honolulu rail transit project is scheduled to run until Spring 2014.

That stretch of Farrington Highway continues to be closed in the west-bound direction. Drivers heading west-bound can still travel between East Kapolei and the Ewa/Waipahu region by using either Kapolei Parkway or Geiger Road on the south end of Kualakai Parkway, or the H-1 Freeway on the north end. HART apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the detour.
