Mecklenburg’s Online Implicit Bias Training Available to Other Jurisdictions (for free!)

 In 2017, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina’s Department of Criminal Justice Services and Criminal Justice Advisory Group (CJAG) began working with the National Development & Research Institute and New York State Psychiatric Institute to create a comprehensive implicit bias training program for criminal justice professionals. This training examines how unconscious or implicit biases can affect an individual’s thought processes and decision making in both subtle and overt ways.
JMI had the opportunity to speak with Haita Toure, Mecklenburg’s Department of Criminal Justice Services’ Equity & Inclusion Specialist, who has been coordinating this effort. Haita provided a background on the development of the training, what it entails, and how it has been rolled out and embraced. (Read more)
