Biden inauguration/Situation in the US

From around 8.40, MEPs will debate with Council President Charles Michel and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen the inauguration of Joe Biden as new US President taking place the same day, the future of EU-US relations, and the riots and storming of the United States Capitol by some of Mr Trump’s hard-line supporters.

Portuguese Council Presidency

At 10.30, MEPs will discuss with Prime Minister António Costa and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen the programme and priorities of the Portuguese Council Presidency.

Right to disconnect

In a debate in the afternoon, MEPs are set to call for an EU law granting workers the right to disconnect digitally from work without facing consequences from employers. They consider the right to disconnect a fundamental right. The vote is scheduled for tomorrow. A press conference via Zoom with rapporteur Alex Agius Saliba (S&D, MT) is scheduled for 13.30. In brief

Tackling the social and employment crisis. MEPs will quiz the Council and Commission on the measures the EU is taking to deal with the social and employment effects of the COVID-19 crisis, including the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD).

Decent and affordable housing for all. Parliament will debate and vote on a resolution that calls for adequate housing to be a fundamental right as well as for measures to prevent homelessness.

Tougher measures to tackle tax havens. MEPs will question Commissioner Gentiloni and the Council on their plans to curb tax havens in a debate on Wednesday, and will adopt a resolution on Thursday.

Votes

The results of Tuesday’s votes on amendments will be announced at 8.30.

The first voting session lasts from 13.00 to 14.15, with results announced at 19.00.

MEPs will take final votes on among other things:

• Common Foreign and Security Policy
• Common Security and Defence Policy
• Human Rights and Democracy in the World in 2019
• Guidelines for use of Artificial Intelligence in military and civil sectors
• Strengthening the single market
• Revision of the Trans-European Transport Network guidelines
• EU arrest warrant.

They will vote on amendments on

• Connectivity and EU-Asia relations.

The second voting session lasts from 20.00 to 21.15, with results announced on Thursday morning at 8.30.

MEPs will take their final vote on

• the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD)

They will vote on amendments on

• The right to disconnect
• Decent and affordable housing for all
• Resolution on reforming the EU list of tax havens.
