Sometimes no matter what we do, we just can’t make ends meet. Times are tight, and food is expensive.

Soldiers’ Angels, a national non-profit organization headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, helps fight hunger in the Veteran community through the Veteran Food Distribution program.

A volunteer with Soldiers’ Angels assists a Vietnam-era Veteran receiving 75 pounds of groceries. Soldiers’ Angels works with six cities to deliver nutritious groceries to at-risk Veterans.

Every month, Soldier’s Angels hosts food distributions in six cities across the country: Atlanta, Charleston, Denver, Detroit, Orlando and San Antonio. These easy, no-hassle events provide more than 200 Veterans with some 75 pounds of nutritious produce, meat and non-perishables, representing two weeks of quality meals for a family of four. Soldiers’ Angels also provides seasonal menus for such holidays as Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Homeless, at-risk or low-income Veterans located in participating cities are eligible. The program is also open to Veterans between jobs who need help bridging the gap.

Veterans may register for events at https://soldiersangels.org/veteranfooddistributions/. However, if the event is full, applicants may be directed to sign up for a waitlist (those on the waitlist may or may not be called on the day of the event).

After registering, Veterans are asked to arrive during a specified time slot and drive through a line where volunteers load groceries into the car. Those without cars are encouraged to bring backpacks, push carts or wagons, and volunteers will load as many groceries possible.

Volunteers and staff at Soldiers’ Angels adhere to COVID-19 protocols, such as wearing masks and keeping car windows closed. For a full list of Soldiers’ Angels COVID-19 safety measures, please visit https://soldiersangels.org/covid-safety-measures/.

Soldiers’ Angels is always seeking volunteers to help fight hunger in the Veteran community, and those interested in volunteering can sign up at https://soldiersangels.org/volunteer/volunteer-to-feed-veterans/.

My thanks to all the volunteers and organizers of this wonderful program. Many of the previously posted comments are valid and, I hope, were privately addressed; however, as I understand, this is a service provided by veterans to veterans which is not affiliated with any other governmental agency and that is devoid of political influence. I am a Frisco, Texas resident who will be interested in volunteering to help form a similar program in the greater Dallas, TX or even as far as the Killeen-Forth Hood-Copperas Cove, TX area.

This is going to an ongoing problem with the intentional inflation problem and the income bracket for the variance will have to change rapidly or so many vets are going to become homeless again or worse, ones with families even more difficult if they are in a 50-60k income bracket that will soon be the new poverty level people we need to get ahead of this before there is nothing we can do about it. God bless us all.

An EBT card would be great! But it seems to me that some of us on 100% disability, make too much money, so we are not qualified for hardly anything except VA medical. This check we get isn’t a lot, just enough for the month. With all the terrific price hikes this isn’t going far. !

EBT cards for Disabled Veterans makes scense. A lot of us are on restricted diets due to medical problems and if the US Goverment can waste our tax dollars o illegals that mNever contributed to the USA, VETERANS SHOULD COME FIRST,

How can we get this program in the greater Cleveland area to help our veterans. I am a woman Vietnam Era Navy veteran and it is very difficult to make ends meet with the price of groceries and all the other necessities to maintain a home. How do we get this program established?

Is there a way to donate to this excellent service?

  7. Patricia Smetana June 1, 2022 at 23:22

Who would I need to contact to provide this service in Kansas?
How can I lead a group here?
Is all the food non-perishable? If not do you give only non-perishable to homeless veterans?

    Thank you

It would be much easier if Veterans are able to obtain an EBT card for food.. You guys really how to make a Veterans feel low by waiting for an event to stand in line to wait for food sitting in the sun instead of going to a grocery store.

They don’t have soldiers angels in Oregon or California but they need them.

As a food pantry volunteer here in Arizona it would be great to hear more from you. Is there interest in have a Food Bank like ours offer the service to veterans in our area for you?
Just a thought…we operate very similar to what you are describing…

      Hello Brian,
I’m an AZ Vet and would like to know more about your food bank and volunteering. Thank you!

With the new prices and the cost of everything including gas we do not have a prayer to pay for anything or get anything done without going bankrupt. Offer real help with food gas and repairs. Stop all the scams promising help when none is actually there at all

Appreciate the food definitely does help and we take whatever we get like last month split our food with another veteran down the street. He’s unable to get out I wish we were able to have veterans like this delivered or food to them
Also like to be able to be approved for Caregiving you’re getting greedy my husband needs Caregiving but they were not approve and they said he’s not sick enough horrible back entries has put him into the ER and wheelchair but he suffers from an old injury from Vietnam, congestive heart failure COPD horrible stomach issues that need surgery.

It would be better if they just okayed our caregiver Grant we applied for in 2016 and appealed then we would be paid for service and not have to beg for things like this!
