The RAPIDD Study Protocol (linked below as a related resource) was launched in 2015 to provide researchers with a pre-planned research study protocol to use for rapidly implementing a new study at the time of a disaster. Since its inception, researchers have expressed a desire for development of a repository that will provide even more extensive tools that permit the collection of primary data within 2-3 weeks (or sooner) of a disaster or emergency. In response to this, the RAPIDD Protocol Designer was launched in early 2023. This web-based tool allows researchers to make selections and provide inputs to customize a human subjects research protocol based on their unique scenario. The result is a downloadable document containing protocol language previously approved by the National Institutes of Health Institutional Review Board (NIH IRB) and resources needed to conduct the research such as informed consent form, questionnaires, and sample collection protocols. The goal is to provide documents and resources for rapid deployment at the time of a disaster. Researchers may also use the protocol as a model for developing additional ready-to-use protocols for other disaster research efforts.
