“I am delighted to write this letter of recommendation for Shana Overdorf, whom I have had the pleasure of working with through the All American Gateway Workforce Region Collaboration. Shana is a hard-working and honest individual of reliable character. I have worked alongside of Shana during a lifelong learning and literacy campaign that was hosted by the collaboration. I can honestly say that she was a pleasure to be around. Not only was Shana well respected by her peers, but also by the collaboration of workforce development boards, whom we both worked closely with to oversee the campaign. Shana’s professional experience in education and program development was instrumental in launching the “Get ‘Not’ Out of Your Life” lifelong learning and literacy campaign. I was fortunate to work with Shana on the marketing side of the campaign, which resulted in the development of several outreach products. She created and maintained the www.getnotout.org site, which was a one-stop shop for anyone looking for literacy resources in the 11-county region of Bladen, Hoke, Richmond, Robeson, Scotland, Moore, Lee, Cumberland, Montgomery, Harnett, and Sampson counties. Shana arranged advertisements through various medias including newspapers, public service announcements, television, billboards, and movie theatre static ads to promote the campaign. From the beginning, Shana was immensely involved in the vision, development, establishment of partnerships and implementation of the campaign. Thanks to her, the website remains active and marketing pieces continue to circulate throughout the region. Shana is well rounded and has high expectations. I have witnessed her passion and dedication to matters that are important to her and her community. I believe that Shana would make an outstanding asset to any organization.”

Patrons choose their own portion size and what they want · We’ll offer a variety of choices supporting our paying customers in sticking to a budget.
Healthy, seasonal foods · A commitment to providing local and organic whenever possible. We’ll focus on sourcing sustainably grown, raised, or caught foods.
Patrons can volunteer in exchange for a meal · This concept provides a “hand up, not a hand out” opportunity. Keep in mind that a volunteer with proper restaurant training has opportunities for future employment in the food service industry.
Maximum volunteer engagement · This concept and core value is key to building community and restaurant sustainability. Volunteers can work just for meals, and/or because they want to support our efforts to curb hunger in our community.
Paid staff earns a living wage · We will pay a living wage standard from NC to all employed in the café.
The community table · In order to foster a hospitable space that creates opportunities for patrons to cross social, economic, and other boundaries, we’ll have a large table where individuals and small groups can sit together and build community over their delicious and healthy food. -
