COVID-19 Changes for Hunting & Trapping Draws

Properties are operating hunt and trap draws differently in 2021-22 because of COVID-19. Details:

  • Atterbury FWA

    Atterbury Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures will be in place until further notice and must be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting and trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at Atterbury Fish & Wildlife Area.

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process. Property users will be expected to follow CDC guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or in close proximity to other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to hunt at Atterbury FWA, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA during the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.

    Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will enter the headquarters through the north door. At no time will more than two parties be allowed in the building at one time.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Please find a place in line as drawing procedures will likely take longer than previous years.
    • Once at the counter, hunters will receive a temporary registration (badge) number. The badge is a daily permit card for the game species you are registering to hunt. A number will be written on the card representing your badge number.
    • All members of the hunting party will print their name the back of the daily permit card while at the counter. Please take this opportunity to ask staff any questions you have.
    • Hunters will then be asked to exit the building out of the south door.
    • Hunters will remain outside and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • Parties will be called in via a PA system. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • All members of the hunting party must enter the north door of the building when their number is called.
    • No more than two hunting parties will be allowed in the office at one time. The two parties permitted indoors will be (1) the party making the choice and (2) the party to choose next.
    • When your badge number is called, make your way to the counter, choose your hunting location, and sign the daily waiver. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit out the south door and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where folks may congregate including parking lots and boat ramps.

  • Crosley FWA

    Crosley Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures will be in place until further notice and will be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting/trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at Crosley Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA).

    All members of the hunting/trapping party must be present and stay together during the drawing process. Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while in close proximity with other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to hunt/trap at the above listed property, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt and trap at any other FWA in the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting/trapping season.

    Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting/trapping party will assemble at the front of the headquarters. At no time should anyone be closer than 6 feet apart without a mask.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside. Do not wait until the last minute to get in line because drawing procedures will likely take longer than previous years.
    • All draw activities will take place outdoors.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the draw.
    • Please practice patience during these times as current guidelines may slow down the draw process.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then go back to their vehicles and dismiss.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where folks may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

  • Deer Creek FWA

    Deer Creek Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Trapping Draw Procedures

    These procedures are in place until further notice and must be followed for the public drawing for allocating trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at properties managed by Deer Creek Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA), including Chinook and Wabashiki FWAs.

    All trappers must be present during the drawing process. Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or in close proximity to other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to trap at Deer Creek FWA and the properties it manages, but also may jeopardize your ability to trap or hunt at any other FWA during the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable trapping season.

    Draw Procedures

    • To register for the draw, trappers will enter the office through the main door.
    • During registration, no more than two trappers will be allowed in the building at one time unless a youth needs accompanied.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Please find a place in line early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than in previous years.
    • Once you are at the counter, Deer Creek staff will take the trappers’ information, sign them up on the sign-in sheet, and assign them a number.
    • All trappers will be given a list of available trapping units and coordinating maps. Please take this opportunity to ask staff any questions you have.
    • Trappers will then exit the building through the doors they entered.
    • Trappers will remain outside and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At 10 a.m. ET (or later if additional time is needed to get all trappers registered), staff will conduct the draw.
    • Trappers will be called into the building in the order that they were chosen. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • Trappers must enter through the main door of the building when their number is called.
    • When your number is called, make your way to the counter, choose your trapping unit, and fill out your trapping permit. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will make a copy of your trapping permit at this time.
    • Trappers will then exit the doors they entered.
    • A second round of drawings may occur if several of the trapping units are still vacant after all trappers have been drawn once.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate.

  • Glendale FWA

    Glendale Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures are in place until further notice and must be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting and trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at Glendale Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA).

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process. Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or in close proximity to other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to hunt at Glendale FWA, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA during the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.

    Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will approach the headquarters via the east entrance of the building.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside. Please be patient, because drawing procedures will likely take longer than in previous years.
    • Approach the designated window. Once at the window, hunters will receive a date-stamped temporary registration number. Please take this opportunity to ask staff any questions you have.
    • Hunters will remain outside the building and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • When your badge number is called, all members of your hunting party must approach the window, choose your hunting location, and sign the daily waiver. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit the area and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

  • Goose Pond FWA

    Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures are in place until further notice and must be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting and trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at Goose Pond Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA).

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process.

    Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or within 6 feet of other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize not only your ability to hunt at Goose Pond FWA, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA during the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.

    Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will sign up at a table set up outside the Visitor Center by the main door. Please find a place in line early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than in previous years.
    • Once at the sign-up table, hunters will sign in on the daily waiver and receive a temporary registration (badge) number. The badge is a daily permit card for the game species you are registering to hunt. A number will be written on the card representing your badge number.
    • Once signed up, hunters will remain outside and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while waiting for the draw time.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • The first 10 parties will be called in via a PA system. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • One member of the hunting party must enter the west side door of the building when their number is called and stand on a social distancing marker on the floor.
    • No more than 10 individuals from hunting parties will be allowed in the office at one time.
    • Once inside, listen for your number. When your number is called, make your way to the counter, choose your hunting location, and take your permit cards. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit out the main door and head to their hunting locations.
    • The next 10 parties will be called and so on, until the draw is complete.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

  • Hovey Lake FWA

    Hovey Lake Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures will be in place until further notice and will be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting and trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 at Hovey Lake FWA.

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process.

    Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or in close proximity with other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to hunt at Hovey Lake FWA, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA for the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.

    Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will enter the property office. At no time will more than three parties be allowed in the building at one time.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Property users are encouraged to arrive to the draw early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than in previous years.
    • Once at the counter, hunters will receive a temporary registration (badge) number. The badge will be a daily permit card for the game species you are registering to hunt. A number will be written on the card representing your badge number.
    • All members of the hunting party will print their name on the back of the daily permit card while at the counter. This is your chance to ask staff any questions you have.
    • Hunters will then be asked to exit the building.
    • Hunters will remain outside and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • Parties will be called back into the office according to the draw order, one party at a time. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done efficiently.
    • All members of the hunting party must enter the office when their number is called.
    • When your badge number is called, make your way to the counter, choose your hunting location, and sign the daily waiver. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of the other folks who to still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit out the office and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where folks may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.
    • On reserve hunt days, hunters who were successfully drawn in the preseason reserve draw will need to sign in and then will head to their hunt location in the predetermined order. A standby draw will then be conducted to fill remaining spots following the previous guidelines.

  • Jasper-Pulaski FWA

    Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures are in place until further notice and must be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting opportunities for at Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA).

    Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or while in close proximity to other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to hunt at Jasper-Pulaski FWA, but may also jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA during the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.

    Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw, hunters will enter the check station through the west door. No more than four people will be allowed in the building at one time.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Please find a place in line early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than in  previous years.
    • Once at the counter, hunters will receive a temporary registration (badge) number. The badge is a daily permit card for the game species you are registering to hunt. A number will be written on the card representing your badge number.

    • Hunters will then be asked to exit the building out of the east door.
    • Hunters will remain outside, return to the parking lot west of the check station, and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.

    • All hunters must enter the west door of the building when their number is called.
    • No more than four hunters will be allowed in the check station at one time. The four hunters permitted indoors will be the one hunter making the choice and the three hunters in line to choose next.
    • When your badge number is called, make your way to the counter, choose your hunting location, and sign the daily waiver. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit out the east door and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will enter the headquarters through the south door. At no time will more than 10 parties be allowed in the building at one time.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Please find a place in line early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than previous years.
    • Once at the counter, hunters will sign the daily waiver and receive a temporary registration (badge) number. The badge will have a number on it and will be a registration permit for the game species you are registering to hunt. Please take this opportunity to ask staff any questions you have.
    • Hunters will then be asked to exit the building out of the north door.
    • Hunters will remain outside north of the doors and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • Parties will be called in via a PA system. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • Ten numbers will be called, and one member of the hunting party must enter the south door of the building when their number is called. The member must stand on a number and wait to be called to the counter.
    • No more than 10 hunting parties will be allowed in the office at one time. The 10 parties permitted indoors will be the first set of parties making the choice, and the next 10 parties to choose will be called into the office next.
    • When your badge number is called, make your way to the counter, and choose your party’s hunting location. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of the other people who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit out the north door and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where folks may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will enter the headquarters through the east door. At no time will more than two parties be allowed in the building at one time.

    • Hunters will then be asked to exit the building out of the north door.

    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • Parties will be called in via a PA system. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.

    • To register for a draw, hunters will enter the headquarters through the west door and exit through the south door. No more than eight hunters will be allowed in the building at one time.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Please find a place in line early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than previous years.
    • Once at the counter, hunters will receive a temporary registration (badge) number. The badge is a daily permit card for the game species you are registering to hunt. A number will be written on the card representing your badge number.
    • Hunters will remain outside the west door and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • Hunters will be called in two at a time to fill out the daily liability waiver. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • Hunters will enter the west door when their names are called.
    • No more than eight hunters will be allowed in the office at one time.  This includes both hunters with reservations and those waiting to get into the standby draw.
    • When your badge number is called, make your way to the counter, choose your hunting location, and sign the daily waiver. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will finish filling out your daily permit card at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit out the south door and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process.     • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will enter the check station through the door to the right (east).
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting to register. Please find a place in line early as drawing procedures will likely take longer than in previous years.
    • Once at the counter, hunters will sign the daily waiver and have their name recorded on the draw sheet. Please take this opportunity to ask staff any questions you have.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • Parties will be called. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • When your number is called, make your way to the counter and choose your hunting location. You will be given a permit card at this time.
    • Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations. Hunters will then exit out of the door to the right (west) and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

    J.E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures are in place until further notice and must be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting and trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at J. E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA).

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process. Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or in close proximity to other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to hunt at J.E. Roush Lake FWA, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA during the 2020-21 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.

    Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw or claim your reservation, all members of the party will enter the building door marked “Enter.” Please check in with the DNR staff person and proceed to the table to register. No more than two parties will be allowed in the building at one time.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Please find a place in line early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than in previous years.
    • Once at the table, hunters will receive a temporary registration number.
    • All members of the hunting party will be required to sign in. Please take this opportunity to ask staff any questions you have.
    • Hunters and their parties will then be asked to exit the building through the door marked “Exit.”
    • Parties will remain outside the building in the parking lot area and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk and conduct the draw.
    • Parties will be called by registration number. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • All members of the hunting party must sign in and obtain a one-day permit card when their number is called.
    • No more than two hunting parties will be allowed in the building at one time. The two parties permitted indoors will be (1) the party making the choice and (2) the party to choose next.
    • When your number is called, make your way to the table, claim your spot, and obtain a one-day hunt card. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to claim the remaining spots.
    • Property staff will distribute required items (permit card and/or trapping form) at this time.
    • Hunters who have completed their sign in will then proceed out the door marked “Exit.”
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate, including parking lots and boat ramps.

    Winamac Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures are in place until further notice and must be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting and trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at Winamac Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA).

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process. Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or in close proximity to other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing may not only jeopardize your ability to hunt at Winamac FWA, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA during the 2021-22 season.     Draw Procedure

    • To register for a draw, all members of the hunting party will enter the office through the east door. No more than two parties will be allowed in the building at one time.
    • Please practice social distancing guidelines while waiting outside to register. Please find a place in line early because drawing procedures will likely take longer than previous years.
    • Once at the counter, hunters will check in as a reservation or for the standby draw and receive a registration (choice/draw) number. The reservation choice number will be written on a daily permit card for the game species you are registering to hunt. Hunters who enter the standby draw will be recorded on a numbered spreadsheet and given their draw number verbally or written on a paper note.
    • All members of the reservation hunting party will receive a daily hunt permit card with choice number while at the counter. Please take this opportunity to ask staff any questions you have.
    • Hunters will then be asked to exit the building out of the north door.
    • Hunters will remain outside the east door and must follow CDC guidelines for social distancing while outside.
    • At the designated time, staff will conduct the safety talk outside on the east porch. Staff will then call in the reservations (by choice order) first. Immediately after the reservations will be the standby draw for the remaining positions available.
    • Standby draw parties will be called in by choice. Pay close attention to the numbers being called so that the draw can be done smoothly and efficiently.
    • All members of the hunting party must enter the east door of the building when their number is called.
    • No more than two hunting parties will be allowed in the office at one time. The two parties permitted indoors will be (1) the party making the choice and (2) the party to choose next.
    • When your number is called, make your way to the counter, choose your hunting location, and sign the daily waiver. Please be ready when your number is called and be mindful of others who still need to choose their locations.
    • Property staff will validate your daily permit card and any observer cards needed at this time.
    • Hunters will then exit out the north door and head to their hunting locations.
    • Continue to follow social distancing standards in all areas where people may congregate, including parking lots, restrooms, and/or facilities.

    Tri-County Fish & Wildlife Area 2021-22 Draw Procedures

    These procedures are in place until further notice and must be followed for all public drawings used to allocate hunting and trapping opportunities for the 2021-22 season at Tri-County Fish & Wildlife Area (FWA).

    All members of the hunting party must be present and stay together during the drawing process. Property users will be expected to follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines and must wear a mask while inside or in close proximity to other members of the public. Failure to practice social distancing not only may jeopardize your ability to hunt at Tri-County FWA, but also may jeopardize your ability to hunt at any other FWA during the 2021-22 season. Please do your part so that everyone can have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.
