WHAT:

Team members from the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) will join firefighters from all over California, Colorado, and Washington by embarking on a cross-country bike ride to mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and pay tribute to the first responders, including 343 firefighters who passed away on that day.

Cyclists from the Fire Velo Club will also remember more than 400 members of the FDNY and NYPD who have lost their lives from post-9/11 illnesses.  They will kick off the coast-to-coast, 3,200-mile journey, known as the Ride for America, at the Santa Monica Pier.  Along the way, the cyclists will pay their respects at the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum, the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania, The Pentagon, and finally arrive in New York on September 9th at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.

The Fire Velo Club is a national cycling, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that promotes physical and mental wellness in the fire service.  For more information about the Ride for America, please visit www.firevelo.com.
