In time for this year’s Memorial Day, NCA has launched a new interactive “Find a Cemetery” map. The feature enables Veterans to search for their final resting place or for those who want to visit their Veteran interred at any of the 155 VA managed or 119 VA-funded cemeteries.

A brand-new feature of the clickable map will allow users to enter a zip code and find the closest cemetery. As shown below, the result from a zip code search will display a pop-up modal window where users can click over to the cemetery web page, call the cemetery (from a mobile phone), look up directions, find burial schedule information or leave tributes, photos and more at the Veterans Legacy Memorial.

Find a cemetery

Find a cemetery feature on the website.

Users can also simply click on a state or territory to display the cemeteries there with blue or green pins representing VA managed or VA funded cemeteries. Clicking on a pin will bring up the same pop-up modal as the zip code search.

Below the large clickable map, users can still find a text list of states and territories. This layout on the page allows users to see the full list of cemeteries available at that those locations, and is easy to read on desktop or mobile devices

Although some locations are now closed for additional interments, burial benefits in one of these cemeteries is available to all members of the armed forces and Veterans who have met minimum active-duty service requirements and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. Members of the reserve components of the armed forces who die while on active duty or who die while on training duty under certain circumstances are also eligible for burial, as are service members and former service members who were eligible for retired pay at the time of their death. A Veteran’s spouse, widow or widower, minor children, and, under certain conditions, unmarried adult children with disabilities, may also be eligible for burial. Eligible spouses and children may be buried even if they predecease the Veteran.

VA provides the gravesite, grave liner, opening and closing of the grave, government headstone or marker, U.S. burial flag, Presidential Memorial Certificate and perpetual care of the gravesite at no cost to the family. For more information about burial and memorial benefits, go to https://www.va.gov/burials-memorials/.

What about Veterans buried overseas in military cemeteries? What info is available and where is it found? Thank you.

Very important service. I am looking for Thomas J. Miller of Wisconsin, who I went through Marine boot camp in San Diego. I left a photo and message on one of the hits I got for a Tom Miller. I hope to hear if this was the Tom Miller I was looking for. Appreciate any response. Semper Fi

  4. David Laubach May 27, 2022 at 15:47

If you can’t find a person on “Find A Cemetary,” then the site is working perfectly. Try “findagrave.com”

  5. Will May 27, 2022 at 10:23

The “Find a Cemetery” link is almost invisible. A button would have been nice for older vets to be able to see and select.

Even posting a comment is an interesting hurtle. Maybe that was the point.

  6. Jim Tlougan May 27, 2022 at 09:23

Very incomplete Half of my relatives that I looked for are not entered.

It works. Found two graves. You have to know the national cemetery name

  8. Anne May 26, 2022 at 21:34

Sometimes people read an article and then expect people to answer. (that’s a ‘chat’) This article is about finding National Cemeteries, not individual graves. Not answering miscellaneous questions… In the first paragraph look for the words “Find a Cemetery” in blue. Click on THAT. From there you can see/find all of the National Cemeteries. (From that page, you can do grave look-ups too. Check the Left-hand column.) Happy Searching.

My father’s name does not come up even though he is buried at the CT State VA cemetery. ???

  10. Kenneth R Kimmel May 26, 2022 at 17:04

most VA interactive websites and surveys are worthless. This one is no exception!

  11. Frank R. Rice May 26, 2022 at 16:28

Unable to find My Grand Parents’ grave at Arlington and my Parents at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

  12. Dan James, ETCS(SS) Ret. May 26, 2022 at 15:38

Works like a champ. Thanks VA.

  13. Jim jagielski May 26, 2022 at 15:11

Fire the company that did this site. Worthless.

  14. Frederick J Burgett May 26, 2022 at 14:34

This website is atrocious! I was unable to find my parents at Camp Butler, IL or determine if my application to be interred there has been honored. My first attempt to post this comment failed. This is an insult to veterans.

  15. Frederick J Burgett May 26, 2022 at 14:31

Website seems to be of little value. Cannot find my father and mother at Camp Butler, IL. Can find no way to see if my efforts to be interred there have been honored. I expect far more of VA. I guess it is still a mess.

  16. John Galligan May 26, 2022 at 13:54

Unable to access any cemetary info. Who ever sets these sites up is way to complex for an OLD GUY or GAL who has no computer skills.

  17. RICHARD J HOLLOWELL May 26, 2022 at 13:50

This was very helpful..thank you VA.

  18. Nick T. Hidek May 26, 2022 at 12:27

I have tried several times with no luck. Can’t locate a map or an entry point for a state or zip code. This program would really help me locate friends, relatives, and veterans I have lost touch with. Pleas fix the website or direct me to a place where I can locate the information I need.

  19. John Dagneau III May 26, 2022 at 11:08

Arlington has some very specific qualifications for internment. Visit your local county or state veterans service office for clarity.

tried to click on image…..doesn’t work. why does the government have to make everything so difficult

[Editor: The link is in the first sentence.]

    • Ron Gardner May 26, 2022 at 12:21

Such baseless whining makes veterans seem rather unintelligent. Brush up on your reading comprehension skills.

    • Joe Osfar May 26, 2022 at 12:37

Why not put it in a box at the top……shouldn’t be that hard. I agree with the response this individual left.

  21. Donald V Fregeau May 26, 2022 at 11:03

    Probably a better link:: https://www.cem.va.gov/find-cemetery/

    • Orlando White May 26, 2022 at 15:39

Thanks for the link, Donald. I agree with all comments about the VA site. Very difficult to navigate. I consider myself computer-literate, but not on this site.

  22. Stephen Savasky May 26, 2022 at 10:46

Provide your funeral director with your honorable discharge and
he or she will take care of it. Good idea to make contact with
your funeral home in advance and tell them what you want.

  23. John P Jones May 26, 2022 at 10:40

Using the link in the first sentence works perfectly for me.

  24. Ernie Pena May 26, 2022 at 10:35

Just like the Military. Instructions are given that one cannot follow.

  25. Joe Hovish May 26, 2022 at 10:27

For some reason, the link is not active and I can’t use it. I’m running Windows 11 if that has an effect.

  26. Dennis Carroll May 26, 2022 at 10:03

Truly disappointed in this website. Searched for Arlington both in District of Columbia and Virginia. NO RESULTS. Come on VA, this is a national cemetery for veterans. Probably one of the largest. I have two friends, make that brothers there.

[Editor: Arlington National Cemetery is not a VA cemetery: https://www.arlingtoncemetery.mil/ ]

  27. Floyd Herndon May 26, 2022 at 09:30

    Excellent! Thank you.

  28. Timothy E. Cray Sr. May 26, 2022 at 08:57

Web site is not up it is broken. Seem like before publishing something someone would confirm that all is good. Please don not email Duds or in-op services especially something this sensitive…Thank you

[Editor: The find a cemetery website, as linked in the first sentence, is both up and working.]

  29. Ron May 25, 2022 at 23:17

I was a little disappointed in the cemetery mao. Searching should generate several results where your keywords may have a misspelled name, got a name slightly wrong, or forgotten something but got a keyword close enough to the person you’re looking for. Secondly, there was no street view so you could actually see the site as if you were there. The aerial view was way too difficult to do anything with. Probably could offer more suggestions but didn’t stay long enough on the site.

  30. John L Wilson May 25, 2022 at 22:54

Sorry but I cannot select anything. Tried to enter my zip code and it would only go to the PR page

  31. Tanya Buydos May 25, 2022 at 22:33

I am a USAF veteran and I need to find information on how I can reserve a burial spot for myself and my husband at Jefferson Barracks near St. Louis, MO. Thank you for your help.

    • John Dagneau III May 26, 2022 at 10:44

There is a pre-burial form to complete and submit to the Cemetery Admin. Contact your local county or state veteran service office and they will assist with that ppwk. Bring a DD 214. There will be no charge to complete this request. I am a retired Veterans Service Officer.

  32. William Propsner May 25, 2022 at 22:23

Why can’t my VA give me a straight answer to a question? I’m a Navy veteran, 1971-1977, Honorable Discharge. When the time comes for me to leave this Earthly plane, in more than 40 more years i hope, what will my VA cover for my burial/cremation? Living on SS and Medicare/Humana doesn’t help much.

    • John Dagneau III May 26, 2022 at 10:52

The VA will not pay for the entire burial/cremation. They will provide an amount based on whether you have a service connected condition. If on your death cert it states that you passed away, either primary or secondary, from the service connected condition-$796.00. If the vet passes from any other condition that is not a service connected condition-$300.00. If the vet has no service connected conditions-he/she receives no cash-then no monetary distribution. You are entitled to be interred at a national cemetery at no cost. You are also entitled to a headstone for free.
I am a retired veterans service officer and I strongly recommend that you visit more local county or state veterans services’ office for complete clarity. The will be no cost.

  33. Barbara A. Kalina May 25, 2022 at 21:36

Thank you. This notification gives me an opportunity to find all my relatives who served in WWII as well as a few in WWI.

  34. Mike Carrington May 25, 2022 at 21:11

Doesn’t work for me. I’d really like this.

  35. Dan Reilly May 25, 2022 at 20:59

    Thank you for thus information.

  36. David Boucher May 25, 2022 at 20:53

I tried three contiguous states. None has a VA cemetery. Is there such a thing as a VA cemetery? Another question: If I open a disability claim next week and then die next month, will the VA pay for the removal of the remaining body from wherever it is when the spirit departs since I’d have then a pending claim?

  37. Robert Dupwe May 25, 2022 at 20:29

I think you’re having problems with this site. I want to look at a cemetery in Phoenix, but this page opens up to Puerto Rico, and I can’t change it.

  38. Terry Allen Holtcamp May 25, 2022 at 20:16

Maybe have the link in the article next time,

[Editor: The link is in the first and last sentences.]

  39. Vinny Coiro May 25, 2022 at 20:11

Of course like everything else the VA does the site map doesnt work

  40. Max G. Imhoff May 25, 2022 at 19:21

So where is this map?…unable to find it here!

[Edit: The link is in the first and last sentences.]

  41. Anthony F. DeStefano MAJ, USA (Ret.) May 25, 2022 at 19:18

My dear friend and fellow veteran died suddenly and his wish was to be creamted and interred at ARLINGTON… thank you for the email which will assist me in making his final wish come true!
