Morning Beach Conditions

April 23, 2024

HIGH rip current risk with cool water and air temperatures at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton. Ocean conditions will bring powerful rip currents from Duck to Buxton. Ocean swimming is not recommended, stay out of the water!

MODERATE rip current risk with cool water and air temperatures south of Cape Hatteras including the beaches at Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water with proper thermal protection. Never swim alone and always take flotation!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which is around 145 pm today.

Expect sunny skies today with temperatures in the lower 60s and north winds around 10 mph. Water Temperatures: Jennettes Pier...53. Oregon Inlet Marina...57. Rodanthe Pier...59. Avon Pier...57.

Ocean Rescue staffing is at off season levels. If help is needed, know your location and call 911!
