Welcome to Clean Chickens and Co. llc! As the only USDA Mobile Poultry Processing Unit (MPPU) in the United States we are proud to be clean, mobile, and convenient!   (Cut to the chase and go to pricing here.       https://www.cleanchickens.com/costs/ )

HOW CLEAN CHICKENS AND CO. CAME TO BE

Coming from north of Bemidji, we grew pasture raised chickens and sold them at the Bemidji Farmers Market. However, we had to leave it all behind us when we relocated to central Minnesota for our deaf daughter’s education. Well, almost!

We learned that folks down here love chickens too, but not butchering them. It’s just not fun. Or maybe like us, they were frustrated when transporting them to a processing plant and would lose some to suffocation and over-crowding. Not to mention, taking hours out of their day to drop off and pick up their birds. Hence Clean Chickens and Co. was born. Clean. Mobile. Convenient!

Chickens are our thing and have been a large part of our family; hatching, brooding, growing and eating them. Heck, we’ve even had pet dwarf therapy chickens! Crazy as it seems, word gets out and when we aren’t processing them we are showing people how to predator-proof their chickens yards, reduce feed costs for growers, or speaking to maximizing their growth cycle; just to name a few chicken dilemmas we’ve helped resolve.

So here we are, going into our sixth season of mobile processing and seventeen years of chickens & such. Thanks to all ya’ll!  If you haven’t called us and want to save your time and gas money, give us a shout.

About Us

Clean Chickens and Co. is a family run business that was built out of our belief that food sustainability should be available to everyone, and that you don’t have to have large parcels of land or live in the country to feed your family good, clean chickens (and also teaching our kids about real hard work!)

Our goal: To be CLEAN, MOBILE, and CONVENIENT for you.

CLEAN- You raise your own birds because you want to be sure that they will be clean & healthy. Despite how clean it might have been raising them, processing them is a dirty job. Our processing unit is cleaned at the beginning and the end of each job for the cleanest possible space to process your birds. We just need water and electricity.

MOBILE- There aren’t many processing plants around anymore, but if you are lucky enough to get a slot you have to take the day off, load up the birds, and transport them. Or, if you have tried processing them yourself it can take days. Our processing unit is mobile so let us come to you.

CONVENIENT- You have raised them, but now it is the dreaded day. So do you invite friends and family to take a work day off? Let your friends and family keep their vacation days for themselves, and save your marriage. Our mobile processing unit is designed for your convenience in mind, by saving you time for the other important things in your busy life.

The Crew!

We are a small family run business who butchers chickens and turkeys in our mobile processing trailer to help farmers & families be more food sustainable.

Services

For costs see Pricing page.

Clean Chickens and Co. is a mobile processor for poultry growers, as well as chicken enthusiasts. Our system for cleaning chickens has been carefully designed to be Clean, Mobile, and Convenient! We pride ourselves on processing your birds, despite the nature of the job, as sanitary as possible. Our trailer is cleaned at the beginning of the job, and again at the end to avoid any potential cross contamination from other farms.

Catching-

Time management is how we can keep costs down for you. Please have your birds in a small area to be captured (some people put them in pet carriers). We then put them in our cages to begin our process.

Kind-Culling

Our culling process is quick and humane. By reducing the blood flow to the brain, we make the bird go to sleep. Then we use killing cones to hang it upside down, nick the main artery and let it bleed out peacefully.

Scalding

Our scalder is commercial-grade and holds multiple birds at the same time.

Plucking

The plucker is commercial grade which allows us to pluck numerous birds at the same time, that number depends on the size of the bird.

Cutting

After completing the plucking process, the bird is sent to the commercial poultry saw to remove the feet and necks.

Eviscerating

For the evisceration station, the bird is cleaned out and rinsed. Our tables used are all stainless steel, the best for sanitary purposes.

Cooling

Finally, the bird is placed into the large, stainless steel cooling tank to cool down before bagging.

Bagging

For bagging, we use shrink wrapped bags making the bird ready for your freezer.

Reviews

Aimee Prasek
We are so, so, so grateful to owners Greg and Becky who traveled to us to process two of our beloved hens. One was very sick and the other serious bullying issues and mobility problems that couldn’t be resolved. Instead of just putting them down medically, we knew this was the responsible route as we have two meat eaters in the family (dog and husband). Every backyard chicken home in the metro area should have their number on hand if they aren’t 100% comfortable killing their birds and want them treated as humanely as can be. My husband watched the process fully and felt as good as can be expected, finding it similar to medically putting the birds down, but more responsible as one of the hens still had viable meat. It was really tough for us, but C&C truly made it a little easier.

Came right to the house and did in four hours what would have probably taken me three days to do. Very pleased with the service and will use again.

What a great experience. I was struggling with having to drive a total of 6 hours to get my chickens processed. C & C made it so convenient. Definitely recommend, so accommodating.

Wes
This is the second year in a row I’ve used their butchering service. They provide great and humane service. Very friendly and clean facilities. Can’t wait to see them next year!

Sean
Needed a processor quick. Chickens were heading into winter and everyone was booked or not doing processing anymore for the year. Called Mobile Butcher and within a few days they were here. Done right in my yard. Quick, easy and convenient. Thanks again!

They did an excellent job. Well organized and the packaging looks great. Would not hesitate to recommend. Will use every year.

We raised some chickens and had 15 too many rosters. I had no plans on keeping them over the winter and didn’t have anyone to butcher our chickens. I would have done it myself but this not our first rodeo and recalled all the lack of fun it used to be. I called Greg and he was more than willing to come out bag the birds. Everything went smooth as it could and he cleans everything very well. His wife also came to help out. Very nice people. I’ll definitely be calling them year after year to butcher. Plus, he is willing to travel if the price is right. Doesn’t get any better than helping a small business.
