Applications open for the Michigan Veteran Homelessness Prevention Grant

The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations for the first-ever Michigan Veteran Homelessness Prevention Grant.

The MVAA will distribute up to 13 grants of $150,000 each in fiscal year 2024 to Michigan-based nonprofits that assist service members, veterans and their families who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness.

The grant funding comes from a one-time, $2 million allocation from the FY24 State Budget.

The grant funding must be used to support initiatives that offer immediate relief, sustainable housing solutions and comprehensive support services for veterans in need. These initiatives may include the provision of temporary housing options including overnight stays in hotels, construction or renovation of affordable housing units, programs to encourage landlords to house veterans and more.

Applicants MUST submit a Letter of Intent to Apply to be eligible to apply for the grant funding. Letters must be returned to MVAAGrants@michigan.gov by 5 p.m. EST on Friday, Sept. 29, 2023.

The deadline for grant applications is 5 p.m. EST on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023.

Here is the full timeline of the grant process.

We look forward to receiving your Letter of Intent to Apply. Send any questions to MVAAGrants@michigan.gov.
