Restrictions imposed by the State of Qatar on Romanian citizens vaccinated against COVID

Priority question for written answer  P-001814/2021
to the Commission
Rule 138
Ioan-Rareş Bogdan (PPE)

The battle against the COVID-19 virus is the principal challenge currently facing the world and an impressive number of people have responded promptly to the vaccination campaign. The majority have opted for immunisation, especially in order to be able to travel to and move around in other countries free of the constraints imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, European citizens are now reporting that the situation in Qatar is somewhat anomalous. Regarding entry restrictions, those who have received both doses of the vaccine in Qatar are exempt from quarantine14 days after second dose, provided that the result of the first PCR test carried out on landing in Doha is negative. This is creating difficulties for Romanian crews on offshore (wind, gas and oil) platforms and for other European citizens who are entitled to work in Qatar but have not been vaccinated there.

What action will the Commission take to ensure that European citizens who have received COVID vaccinations in an EU country are treated in the same way as citizens vaccinated in Qatar?
