Assistant Attorney General - Criminal Division
Description: The Office of the Attorney General's Criminal Division seeks applicants for three contractual positions in its Organized Crime Unit, which handles complex investigations and prosecutions of criminal gang activities, firearms and narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, prison corruption, violent felonies from serious assaults to serial murders, and more. The prosecutors will be cross designated as Special Assistant United States Attorneys (SAUSAs) for the District of Maryland. Two of the positions will primarily work out of the Baltimore Office of the United States Attorney, and one position will primarily work out of the Greenbelt Office of the United States Attorney. The SAUSAs will work closely and coordinate with the Maryland Attorney General's Office, other state prosecutor's offices, local police departments, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF"), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI"), the Drug Enforcement Administration (“DEA") and other federal and state task forces to identify and prosecute those individuals and organizational targets responsible for committing acts of violence throughout the State of Maryland.
The SAUSAs will be expected to assist in both the investigation and prosecution (including extensive grand jury, pre-trial, and trial work) of a variety of firearms, narcotics, and violent crimes, including, but not limited to: (1) racketeering and gang related offenses, (2) use of firearms in furtherance of violent and drug trafficking crimes, (3) illegal firearms possession; and (4) firearms trafficking offenses. In addition, the SAUSAs will work closely with the United States Attorney's Office's designated PSN Coordinator and working groups to serve as a legal advisor as cases are identified for prosecution in federal and/or state jurisdictions.
