In a state where possession of small amounts of heroin, methamphetamine, LSD, oxycodone and other hard drugs are legal on the streets, it comes as no surprise that Oregon has seen opioid overdose deaths increase.

The new data shows fentanyl-related overdose deaths rose from 226 reports in 2020 to 508 reports last year, an increase of roughly 125%.

This crisis is killing hundreds of people in Oregon. Unsuspecting youths have been poisoned by fentanyl. Some Portland schools are supplying Narcan, the substance used to combat fentanyl by emergency response teams. According to the CDC, exposure to fentanyl may be fatal and it is estimated to be 80 times as potent as morphine and hundreds of times more potent than heroin.

Opioids are a class of drugs that are typically prescribed by a physician for pain relief. Opioids include the illegal drug heroin, synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, and pain relievers such as oxycodone, hydrocodone, codeine, morphine and others.

Here is an example of Narcan vending machines being set-up around Portland.
