More than ever, now’s the time to #SupportSeattleSmallBiz and workers.
We are facing what Mayor Jenny Durkan has called the “challenge of our time”: The novel coronavirus pandemic, or COVID-19.
Here in the City of Seattle, we’re doing everything we can to support our small businesses and workers. We’re keeping the lights on and the water running for small businesses and workers as long as our emergency proclamation is in place, and we’ve halted evictions for small businesses and nonprofits. We’re also providing eligible small businesses some tax relief, and we’ve launched our own new $2.5 million fund to provide small businesses with emergency $10,000 grants. We’re working directly with small businesses and nonprofits to access badly-needed federal resources, including economic disaster loans specifically to help small businesses impacted by this crisis. There’s more work to be done to support our small businesses and workers, including more help from the federal government.
One more step you can take in Seattle is to tell your community about the small businesses you’re supporting during this difficult time.
So here’s our request: Post your pictures and videos from your favorite Seattle restaurants, bars, and cafes that are doing delivery, to-go, and drive-through with #SupportSeattleSmallBiz and #WeGotThisSeattle, and tag @SeattleEconomy.
We’re also asking small businesses to tell their stories and join in. We’ll be sure to help spread the word about businesses that are open for delivery, take out, and/or drive-through.
And in the coming days, stay tuned for new resources from us that help you know what restaurants in our communities are doing delivery, to-go orders, or drive-through.
And remember: Along with highlighting your favorite neighborhood small business on social media, the best way you can #SupportSeattleSmallBiz is by helping prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and protecting yourself, your loved ones, and your neighbors from getting sick.
