You're Invited to a Webinar on Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (6 NYCRR Part 370 Series)

Due to the COVID-19 public health crisis, DEC is now offering webinars in place of the previously scheduled in-person workshops. These webinars will focus on the hazardous waste rules and revisions that are being considered for adoption in New York. DEC is offering two different webinar series: Hazardous Waste Revisions, and Lab Waste Management for Universities. Participants may attend online or through an audio-only option.

The Hazardous Waste Revisions workshop sessions will primarily focus on the Generator Improvements Rule and associated state-initiated changes, the Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals Rule, and the addition of aerosol cans and paint to the Universal Waste Rule. These revisions are part of an ongoing DEC rulemaking referred to as FedReg6. FedReg6 also includes: the Solvent-Contaminated Wipes Rule; the Electronic Manifest Rules; and the Definition of Solid Waste Rule. Attendees will be able to submit questions during the webinar, which will be answered during question and answer sessions.

Those who wish to attend the webinars need to register. Information about the rulemaking and registration details for the workshops are available on this DEC webpage under “Outreach Information.”

The Lab Waste Management for Universities webinar will cover managing hazardous lab waste under the Academic Labs Rule provisions. Guest speakers will provide information for universities that want to adopt green chemistry practices in their labs. Currently, this webinar will be available by webinar on March 31. Register now!

DEC will make every effort to hold these webinars as scheduled and may schedule additional webinars at a later date. Presentation material for public workshops that were held in February 2020 are available on the DEC website.

DEC will hold a formal public comment period at a later date once it officially proposes the regulations. DEC is accepting unofficial written comments regarding this regulatory initiative. Please submit any comments by e-mail to hwregs@dec.ny.gov.
