Families involved in child welfare and affected by substance use disorders benefit from a family-centered case plan. This webinar explores the research supporting family-centered case plans; discusses ways to actively involve the parent, child, and family support system in both case planning and monitoring; and explains which elements the family-centered case plan should include. Presenters will share ideas on how community-based organizations can collaborate effectively with child welfare and other public agencies—enabling them to meet the requirements of regulations and funding—while creating a meaningful and manageable case plan for families.

Peer support specialists often serve as first responders to individuals who are experiencing a crisis in the community and who are at risk of interfacing with the justice system. However, standardized peer trainings do not always include specific considerations for responding to a behavioral health crisis, such as physical safety and risk for secondary trauma. This webinar will present practical information from the field and highlight new innovations to support peers who respond to mental and substance use crises at Intercept 0 of the Sequential Intercept Model. Presenters will discuss safety considerations, opportunities for leveraging technology, and promising practices that have emerged in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
SAMHSA is accepting applications for the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative (NCTSI)—Category II, Treatment and Service Adaptation (TSA) Centers (NCTSI-II). The purpose of the TSA Centers is to provide national expertise for specific types of traumatic events, population groups, and service systems, and support the specialized adaptation of effective evidence-based treatment and service approaches for communities across the nation.
SAMHSA plans to issue up to 35 awards of up to $600,000 per year for up to 5 years.

SAMHSA is accepting applications for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) Expansion Grants (CCBHC Expansion Grants). The purpose of this program is to increase access to and improve the quality of community mental and substance use disorder treatment services through the expansion of CCBHCs. CCBHCs provide person- and family-centered integrated services. The CCBHC Expansion grant program must provide access to services that include 24/7 crisis intervention services for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) or substance use disorders (SUD), including opioid use disorders; children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance (SED); and individuals with co-occurring mental and substance disorders (COD).
SAMHSA plans to issue approximately 74 awards of up to $2,000,000 per year for up to 2 years.

SAMHSA is accepting applications for Grants to Prevent Prescription Drug/Opioid Overdose-Related Deaths (PDO). The purpose of this program is to reduce the number of prescription drug/opioid overdose-related deaths and adverse events among individuals 18 years of age and older by training first responders and other key community sectors on the prevention of prescription drug/opioid overdose-related deaths and implementing secondary prevention strategies, including the purchase and distribution of naloxone to first responders.
SAMHSA plans to issue approximately 13 awards of up to $850,000 per year for up to 5 years.

SAMHSA is accepting applications for Rural Emergency Medical Services Training grants (EMS Training). The purpose of this program is to recruit and train emergency medical services (EMS) personnel in rural areas.
SAMHSA plans to issue approximately 27 awards of up to $200,000 for up to 1 year.

SAMHSA is allowing flexibility for grant recipients affected by the loss of operational capacity and increased costs due to the COVID-19 crisis. These flexibilities are available during this emergency time period. Flexibility may be reassessed upon issuance of new guidance by the Office of Management and Budget post the emergency time period. Continue to check for updated information and resources to assist grant recipients during the COVID-19 emergency.

Adolescent Development, Substance Use and Current Trends—Webinar

The pandemic has brought up some unusual issues for adolescents in terms of social distancing for youth when peer interaction and support is part of the adolescent development process. With millions of adolescents and young adults at risk of consequences of tobacco, marijuana or long-term addiction, a prevention-focused effort is critical to helping young people modify, reduce or eliminate the use of e-cigarettes and other substances. This 90-minute presentation will review recent research on youth social, emotional and mental wellbeing, substance use and health-related vaping effects, cultural and social considerations of use, and evidence-based interventions.
Mental Health Service Providers Mutual Support Group—Virtual Group
Monday, February 15, 2021 12:00 p.m. ET
One-hour virtual support group sessions will be available the third Monday of each month, February through September 2021. Many community mental health service providers have developed unique strategies for meeting the needs of service participants over the course of the year, but may still be struggling with maintaining their own wellness and self-care. These virtual support groups will help facilitate support and the sharing of wellness strategies and resources. Scheduled dates include 2/15; 3/15; 4/19; 5/17; 6/21; 7/19; 8/16; 9/20.
Building the Latinx Prevention Workforce—Webinar

Aerobic Exercise and Neurocognition in Serious Mental Illness: Efficacy and Clinical Applications via Novel Technologies

Individuals with serious mental illness display substantial neurocognitive difficulties that negatively impact their daily functioning. These neurocognitive deficits are often accompanied by highly sedentary lifestyles that contribute to such difficulties. One intervention that has shown promise in enhancing neurocognition in this population is aerobic exercise. This presentation will discuss the use of novel digital technologies, specifically active-play video games, as part of aerobic exercise interventions to enhance neurocognition in individuals with schizophrenia.
Regional Peer Worker Support Circle—Virtual Meeting

The Regional Peer Worker Support Circle (RPWSC) is a virtual gathering of peer workers from several U.S. states and territories that will meet every other week. The RPWSC is a safe and welcoming forum for mutual support, story sharing, discussion, and networking that unites peers from different professional and personal backgrounds. Meetings will focus on a variety of topics and issues central to peers, such as compassion fatigue, role clarity, systemic racism, self-care, and doing peer work amidst the pandemic. Participants meet every other Friday from 4:00 to 5:00 pm ET through the end of August 2021.
This guide examines emerging and best practices for initiating medication-assisted treatment in emergency departments. It also reviews the existing literature and science of the topic, identifies gaps in knowledge, and discusses challenges of implementation.
