OLYMPIA — House Democrats rejected an amendment Tuesday to reduce farm labor costs by altering the agricultural overtime law and then passed a bill that depends partly on farmers donating produce to food banks.

House Bill 2301 passed 58-39 shortly after midnight on a party-line vote. The bill’s provisions include a new program to compensate farmers for the cost of harvesting and growing food donated to charities.
