National Family Mediation is using grant funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to offer a free one-hour meeting with a family dispute resolution expert to help separating couples discuss their options as they look to make vital arrangements.

The free meetings, held by video conference, will help those who fall just outside of the legal aid requirements, to assess the suitability of family mediation to help them resolve disputes at a very difficult time of their lives.

“Separation is always extremely stressful, and this year’s Covid restrictions compound the difficulties, making it harder than ever for separating couples to move forward,” says Jane Robey, CEO of National Family Mediation. “These free video conference meetings will provide separating couples with vital early advice so they are able to plan the next steps of their lives as co-parents.

“For people who qualify for legal aid, family mediation is already provided free of charge. However, we know that many people who do not meet the strict legal aid criteria still find it tough to meet even the modest costs of mediation.

“We are grateful to National Lottery players for enabling funding for this exciting initiative. We expect it to provide huge benefits to hundreds of separating families over the coming weeks.”
