What is V-safe?

V-safe is a vaccine safety monitoring system that lets you share with CDC how you or your dependent feel after getting a participating vaccine.

After you register, V-safe will send you personalized and confidential health check-ins via text messages or emails to ask how you feel after vaccination. Completing health check-ins and sharing how you feel, even if you don’t experience side effects after vaccination, helps CDC’s vaccine safety monitoring efforts and lets others know what to expect in the days and weeks following vaccination.

V-safe originally launched in December 2020 to monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines and later expanded to include mpox vaccines. Since its launch, 10.1 million V-safe participants completed more than 151 million health surveys about their experiences following COVID-19 and mpox vaccination, and V-safe data have been included in more than 20 scientific publications. V-safe is one of several complementary safety systems CDC uses to closely monitor the safety of vaccines in the United States. It lets vaccine recipients self-report how they feel after receiving a vaccine.

Which vaccines are being monitored in V-safe?

2023-2024 updated COVID-19 and Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccines are being monitored in V-safe.

2023- 2024 Updated COVID-19 Vaccines

• For persons aged 6 months and older:
  • 2023-2024 updated COVID-19 vaccine (by Pfizer-BioNTech)
  • 2023-2024 updated COVID-19 vaccine (by Moderna)
• For persons aged 12 years and older:
  • 2023-2024 updated COVID-19 vaccine (by Novavax)

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccines

• For older adults (aged 60 and older):
  • RSVpreF vaccine (Abrysvo by Pfizer)
  • RSVPreF3 vaccine (Arexvy by GSK)
• For pregnant people:
  • RSVpreF vaccine (Abrysvo by Pfizer)
  • Abrysvo is the only RSV vaccine recommended during pregnancy.

What you need to know

• You can register for V-safe using your computer, tablet, or smartphone after getting a participating vaccine.
• Participation in V-safe requires a new registration, even if you previously enrolled and participated in V-safe for previous COVID-19 vaccines or mpox vaccines.
• Once you register in V-safe, you can use the same account to enroll in multiple vaccines.
• You can add a dependent (family member, friend, or individual who relies on you for support) in V-safe.
• V-safe will send you a daily health check-in reminder during the first week after vaccination. Then, V-safe will send you messages once a week for up to six weeks. If you enroll in V-safe for maternal RSV, check-ins will continue until you report that you have delivered or report that you are no longer pregnant. You can opt out at any time.
• Your personal information in V-safe is protected, so it’s safe and private.
