Landsape Recovery

The Landscape Recovery Scheme has been established for landowners and managers who want to take a radical and large-scale approach to producing environmental and climate goods on their land. It will provide funding for long-term and large-scale projects in England. Landscape Recovery forms part of the new Environmental Land Management Scheme that is being introduced to replace Countryside Stewardship.

The Landscape Recovery scheme will support landscape and ecosystem recovery through long-term projects, such as:

  • restoring wilder landscapes in places where it’s appropriate
  • large-scale tree planting
  • peatland and salt marsh restoration

This scheme represents a new approach to supporting long-term, significant habitat restoration and land use change. It will initially focus on biodiversity, water quality and net zero.

The government is planning to open applications for Landscape Recovery pilot projects in at least two rounds over the next 2 years. The application process for the first round of up to 15 Landscape Recovery pilot projects is now open.

The first round of projects will be focused on two themes:

  • recovering and restoring England’s threatened native species
  • restoring England’s streams and rivers

Landscape Recovery is open to any individuals or groups who want to come together to deliver large (500 – 5000 ha) scale projects.

Focus of fund/fund aims:

Applications are now open for Landscape Recovery pilot projects: ambitious, large-scale habitat restoration and land-use change schemes to deliver a range of environmental benefits

Application deadline:

24 May 2022
