Wednesday evening CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire crews from Alta and Colfax Stations with the Placer County Fire Technical Rescue Team, NEU Crew 1, CHP, AMR Ambulance and Care Flight Truckee responded to a vehicle accident/vehicle over the embankment on Secret Town Rd. in Dutch Flat. Upon arrival crews found a pickup had left the roadway and rolled approximately 150 feet into the bottom of a drainage. Fire Fighters with CHP officers searched the vehicle and found a blood trail that they followed another 800 to 1000 feet down drainage where the victim suffering moderate injuries had managed to crawl/walk. Fire Fighters determined that due to the remote location and with no open tree canopy for a hoist operation by rescue helicopter a technical rope system would be required to help extricate the patient back up to the roadway some 1000 plus feet away. The Technical Rescue Team worked to establish two mechanical rope raising systems, while NEU Crew 1 cleared and created a walking path for rescuers who eventually were able to carry the patient in a stokes basket where appropriate between rope systems. Once the patient was at the road AMR Ambulance transported the patient to the Gold Run rest area where Care Flight Truckee was waiting for transport to the Sutter Roseville Trauma Center. The entire operation lasted approximately 3 hours and required 30 rescuers from the different agencies.
