Social Emotional and Behavioral Support

The concept of social emotional and behavioral learning has gained more focused prominence among practitioners, researchers, education reformers, and other stakeholders. It has become a potential key in helping students unlock their academic potential and improve educational outcomes. Social and emotional competencies have been associated with academic and behavioral successes as well as being a protective factor for at-risk populations.

Caring for the social emotional and behavioral wellbeing of students, and of the educators and professionals who educate and support them, is all the more critical as schools, educators, families and students confront the challenges of learning during a national health crisis.

The Department supports a number of technical assistance centers to provide content expertise and resources to effectively address State and local needs and assist with implementation of federal programs that support students’ social emotional and behavioral needs. The sections on this page provide links to resources developed by these Centers and other federal partners.
