HOLLYWOOD, CA — Crews are working to contain a mudslide that damaged a single story home on in Hollywood Hills and compromised a street above.

Heavy rainfall sent 40 to 50 feet of the hillside flowing down into the backyard of a home in the 2800 block of North Westshire Drive shortly after 10 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The mudslide stopped behind the home, leaving about four inches of mud and water in the backyard. All residents of the home were safely evacuated, an LAFD spokeswoman said. However, the mudslide made Lechner Place, the street above the mudslide, unsafe, according to authorities.

As of 10:20 a.m., Lechner Place remained close to traffic from Westshire Dr to Hollyridge Dr. Authorities warned that the closure could be extended as crews work to contain the damage. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
