June 12, 2020 New Alliance with ASAThe Office of Disability Employment Policy signed a formal partnership with the American Staffing Association (ASA) on May 7, 2020. The purpose of the alliance is to advance the employment of people with disabilities in the staffing, recruiting, and workforce solutions industry. Each year, this industry hires an estimated 16 million temporary and contract workers nationwide. Quick Tip VideoThe U.S. Department of Labor has posted a "Quick Tip" video to help employers understand how the Americans with Disabilities Act rules apply during the COVID-19 pandemic. The video also refers employers to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to learn about medical exams and inquiries in light of the national health crisis. Section 188 and COVID-19 WebinarThe LEAD Center will host a webinar on "Equal Opportunity and Accessibility for WIOA Partners during COVID-19 and Beyond" on June 18 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET. The webinar will present current COVID-19-related and general front-line scenarios to share effective accommodation practices and examples of equal opportunity policy and procedure implementation for American Job Centers and other workforce system partners. It will provide information, strategies, and resources regarding the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act's (WIOA) Section 188 equal opportunity and non-discrimination practices. VR100 AnniversaryIn honor of the 100th anniversary of Vocational Rehabilitation, the U.S. Department of Education posted a video on "VR100 Anniversary: A Century of Success." In the video, students and adults with disabilities discuss how the Vocational Rehabilitation program changed their lives.
