Victory Community Park - 2nd consultation

Overview

Help us shape improvements to Victory Community Park

Victory Community Park is located close to the Elephant and Castle within the Borough, Bankside and Walworth area of Southwark. The park is situated between Rodney Place, Munton Road, Balfour Street and Victory Place. 

The Elephant and Castle area around the park is undergoing major redevelopment including new housing, highways, and parks and open spaces.

These improvements highlight the need to improve the quality of the park and to create new connections to Elephant and Castle.  A people counting survey also recorded low visitor numbers to the park when compared to other Southwark Parks.  Improvements to the park will aim to increase visitor numbers.

Earlier this year, we carried out a first round of public consultation to find out what the public's priorities are to improve the park. 

They told us:

1. The world planting border is a popular feature and should be retained/enhanced.
2. Satisfaction with the existing play area is relatively high. Play facilities are important and should be improved.
3. The trees and especially the blossom were mentioned frequently so retention of cherry trees is important.
4. The fencing was often described as prison like and discourages visits.
5. The seating also needs to be reviewed. The stone seating around the park considered uncomfortable.

We now want you to tell us what you think of three initial designs, shaped by what you told us in the first consultation. The designs are shown on the survey or you can download the designs below to review and then complete the online survey. This survey is open to anyone who lives, works or visits the park. 

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have decided not to hold an event in the park on this occasion but you can share your views of the three designs below or join us for a virtual meeting on Wednesday 21st October, 6.30pm via Zoom, for an opportunity to discuss the project with Southwark Council’s Project Manager and the project architects.

This consultation has now closed and responses are no longer being accepted.

Why your views matter

We are consulting with park visitors and local residents to help shape the final design for the improvements to the park. This will make sure the park meets the needs of park users.

What happens next

We will consider all responses to this consultation and these will be used to develop a final plan for Victory Community Park later in 2020. A summary of the consultation and the key findings will be made available on the main project webpage https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parks-and-open-spaces/projects-in-parks/victory-community-park.  The key findings will also be sent to residents who request to be included on the project email list.
