National Adoption Day is an annual event in which courts and communities in all 50 states join to finalize thousands of adoptions and to celebrate families who foster and adopt. Fostering to adopt can be at once challenging and rewarding.
This year, Placer County marked the occasion by finalizing the adoption of four children from foster care. Here are a few of their families' stories.
Jaque's family
It’s become our family mission to take care of kids. [Even if just] for a time, if they just need a place to land for awhile. We got a call from Placer County and it said ‘we have a sibling of one of the kids you’ve adopted.’ It was J. So we said yes and he came to us a few days before his second birthday.
Jaque was adopted by Aubrey and Bruce. The couple had previously adopted Jaque’s half sibling, Marianna, three years prior. While the prospect of another young child was daunting, they say he has been a joy.
Ryder's family
We got to meet him about a year ago.We got a call saying that there was a little guy who needed a place to stay. And we said okay. And the moment [he] popped out of the car, we knew [he was] special. Working with Placer County has been amazing. It's been amazing to see how many people were there to support us.
Ryder Hull was adopted by Katia and Beau.
Thank you to all the families who joined us on Adoption Day and who have supported Placer County foster youth throughout the year.
