Antoinette M. Sayeh assumed office as Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund on March 16, 2020.
Ms. Sayeh has been a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Center for Global Development (CGD) since November 2016 and was Co-Chair for the recently concluded 19th Replenishment of the International Development Association (IDA19), the World Bank’s Fund for the poorest. She previously oversaw and significantly enhanced the International Monetary Fund’s engagement with its sub-Saharan African members as Director of the African Department between July 2008 and August 2016. Guillermo Ortiz is Senior Advisor and Board Member of BTG Pactual. Former Chairman of BTG Pactual Latam ex-Brazil. He was Chairman of the Board of Grupo Financiero Banorte. Dr. Ortiz is Chairman of the Per Jacobsson Foundation, and a member of several international organizations. He also serves in the Board of several companies. He was Governor of Banco de Mexico (1998-2009), Minister of Finance of Mexico (1994-1997) and Secretary of Communications and Transportation (1994). In 2006 he was appointed to the Board of the BIS and was elected Chairman in 2009. He was also Executive Director at the IMF (1984-1988). Mr. Ortiz earned a BA degree in Economics from UNAM and a PhD in Economics from Stanford University.
Lesetja Kganyago was appointed Governor of the SARB with effect from 9 November 2014.
He was reappointed by the President of South Africa for a second five-year term effective 9
November 2019. Prior to his appointment as Governor, Kganyago served as Deputy Governor
of the SARB from 16 May 2011 until his elevation to Governor.
Kganyago chairs the Committee of Central Bank Governors of the Southern African
Development Community (SADC), the Bank for International Settlements Central Bank
Governance Group (CBGG) and co-chairs the Financial Stability Board’s Cross-Border
Payments Coordination Group (CPC) and Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan
Africa (RGG-SSA). In addition, he served as the Chairperson of the International Monetary
and Financial Committee, which is the primary advisory board to the International Monetary
Fund (IMF) Board of Governors, from 18 January 2018 – 17 January 2021.
He holds an MSc in Economics from SOAS University of London and a Bachelor of
Commerce degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of South Africa as well
as Doctor of Commerce degrees from Stellenbosch University and the Nelson Mandela
University. He also received various training in Finance, Economics and Management.
Masood Ahmed is the president emeritus of the Center for Global Development. He joined the Center in January 2017, capping a 35-year career driving economic development policy initiatives relating to debt, aid effectiveness, trade, and global economic prospects at major international institutions including the IMF, World Bank, and DFID.
Ahmed joined CGD from the IMF, where he served for eight years as director, Middle East and Central Asia Department, earning praise from Managing Director Christine Lagarde as a “visionary leader.” In that role, he oversaw the Fund's operations in 32 countries, and managed relationships with key national and regional policy makers and stakeholders.
Born and raised in Pakistan, Ahmed moved to London in 1971 to study at the LSE where he obtained a BSc Honors as well as an MSc Econ with distinction.
Ahmed is a leading expert on Middle East economics, having served on the Advisory Board of the LSE Middle East Center, as well as on the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on the Middle East and North Africa.
