There are a range of support services available to help you prepare for your move to Universal Credit.

General guidance

If you would like general support on moving to Universal Credit you can:

  • use Advice Local to find a local benefits advisor for independent, tailored guidance
  • get support with applying for Universal Credit with Help to Claim, including how to:
    • work out if you can get Universal Credit
    • fill in the Universal Credit application
    • prepare for your first Jobcentre appointment
    • check your first payment is correct

Budgeting and debt guidance

If you’re struggling with money, or are worried about managing your finances while moving to Universal Credit, you can:

  • take a look at some of the ways Universal Credit can help which includes advance payments to help you while you wait for your first payment, and support with budgeting
  • find free and impartial financial advice with Money Helper, including confidential debt advice online, over the phone or face to face. You can also use the Money Manager tool to get tips and information, specific to your situation
