The Opportunity

As a Laboratory Technician 1, you'll perform simple, routine laboratory procedures and other laboratory work which supports the operation of Support Services, a team that is responsible for decontaminating laboratory waste, cleaning and preparing laboratory glassware, maintaining laboratory supplies, preparing laboratory media, receiving and distributing laboratory specimen and mail, preparing and shipping and specimen collection kits.  These duties must be performed accurately, expeditiously, and in a safe manner to protect the public and employees within the PHL.

This recruitment is for a full-time permanent Laboratory Technician 1 position.

What will you be doing? – Duties include:

• Providing support for quality and safety document review and training to ensure documentation, data entry, and work processes are completed in a timely and satisfactory manner.

• Preparing microbiological media and chemical solutions for specimen testing.

• Performing QA/QC reviews for all temperature and Preventative Maintenance charts.

• Training staff to perform the Glassware and Stockroom safety procedures, and microbiological media and chemical solutions for specimen testing.

• Reviewing and updating procedures.

• Posting, picking-up and delivering USPS Mail; preparing and shipping Laboratory Supply Orders and PHL kits.

• Managing laboratory supply orders.

Required Qualifications

• OPTION 1: Two (2) or more years of work experience performing microbiological, chemical, clinical, or public health testing or surveillance.

OR

• OPTION 2: One (1) or more years of training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences; and one (1) or more years of work experience performing microbiological, chemical, clinical, or public health testing or surveillance.

OR

• OPTION 3: Two (2) or more years of training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences.


AND

• Demonstrated experience using MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications

• An Associate's degree or higher in a science related field.

Conditions of Employment/Working Conditions

• Undergo health testing and immunization/vaccinations. 
• Use ladders, and industrial garbage disposal, and will be exposed to broken glass. 
• Work in areas that can be hot, steamy, or smelly for periods of time. 
• Stand for extended periods of time and able to lift up to 60 pounds or equivalent to 1 case of copy paper.
• Work in a fast-paced/stressful environment with multiple priorities and competing deadlines. 
• Move object weighing up to 60 pounds or equivalent to 1 case of copy paper.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
