Webinar on new public assistance policy at 4 p.m. ET

FEMA Releases Publication 1: We Are FEMA

On November 20, FEMA released the third edition of Publication 1 (Pub 1) and invites the whole community, including individuals and organizations, to read the new publication to better understand FEMA's mission and role in emergency management.

 

FEMA has a dynamic workforce comprised of different backgrounds and identities that strengthens its ability to help, relate, and support others during adversity.  Pub 1 will provide partners and the public with an understanding of the agency and a framework for the whole community to unite in purpose and mission.


FEMA Seeks Input on Comprehensive Preparedness Guide 101

FEMA is accepting input for the update of “Comprehensive Preparedness Guide 101: Developing and Maintaining Emergency Operations Plans.”  This document provides guidance for developing emergency operations plans.

 

FEMA will host a series of 60-minute virtual listening sessions to provide a brief background on the guide, as well as to gather thoughts and recommendations on how to improve it. The sessions will include facilitated discussions with stakeholders on what they find useful within the document and where they see areas for improvement. This will help FEMA develop a more complete and useful draft to engage with the whole community again further into the process.

FEMA Releases PrepTalk: “Living with Water: How the Netherlands Prevents Flood Disasters”

Last week, FEMA released Jan Peelen’s PrepTalk “Living with Water: How the Netherlands Prevents Flood Disasters.”  Peelen tells the story of the Netherland’s historic battle with flooding and shares how the Dutch are learning to live with water.

 

As a representative of the Dutch Ministry for Infrastructure and Water Management at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Peelan advises U.S. entities on resilience, urban planning, and infrastructure and coordinates all water-related efforts of the Dutch diplomatic network in the U.S.

 

PrepTalks are a partnership between FEMA, the International Association of Emergency Managers, the National Emergency Management Association, the National Homeland Security Consortium, and the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security.


Upcoming Deadlines and Reminders

FEMA Hosts Webinar on New Public Assistance Policy

On Nov. 6, FEMA published “Consensus-Based Codes, Specifications and Standards for Public Assistance.” The policy is meant to increase post-disaster community resilience and support efficient use of FEMA Public Assistance funding to reduce future vulnerabilities.

 

FEMA will host a webinar to explain the new policy and the actions an applicant needs to complete to opt-in before the Jan. 5, 2020 deadline.

 

The webinar will be held at 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 3.  Register on FEMA Adobe Connect.
