Severe Injury Dashboard

Construction remains one of the most dangerous industries in the U.S. In addition to having one of the highest rates of fatal injuries, construction workers annually suffer hundreds of thousands of nonfatal injuries. Since the start of 2015, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has required employers under its jurisdiction to report all severe work-related injuries — defined as an amputation, in-patient hospitalization, or loss of an eye. Reporting of severe injuries varies by state because many states do not fall under federal OSHA jurisdiction due to operating their own occupational safety and health programs, which have different reporting systems.

Severe injury data are from the OSHA Severe Injury Reports. The dashboard shows severe injuries in construction by state, detailed subsector, event, and source.

Dashboard instructions and information on filters, charts, and definitions are included in the information icon Data Dashboard information icon located to the right of the dashboard title.

You can download the data behind the Dashboard as a spreadsheet. If you have questions or comments, please email datacenter@cpwr.com.
