About the Speaker

Konstantin Chumakov, PhD., D.Sci
Associate Director for Research
Office of Vaccines Research and Review
Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER)
Food & Drug Administration (FDA)

Dr. Chumakov received his Doctor of Science and Ph.D. from Moscow State University in the Soviet Union. In 1989, he began working for the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research at the FDA, where is leads the Laboratory of Methods Development as the Associate Director for Research at the Office of Vaccines. He is an Internationally recognized expert in regulation of vaccine. He is an Advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) as a member of their Polio Research Committee.

About the Presentation

FDA regulatory science played a leading role in the evaluation and the development of state-of-the-art quality control methods for the new generation of polio vaccines. The presentation will discuss the evolution of vaccines against poliomyelitis driven by the change in disease epidemiology, socio-economic circumstances, and advances in biotechnology.
