Consultation has started on proposals for cycling and walking improvements on the B2144 Oving Road in Chichester.
The proposals are part of West Sussex County Council’s transport strategy for Chichester, which aims to make walking and cycling a more attractive option for short trips.
Following initial public engagement this Spring, feasibility designs are now being put forward by us for Oving Road, between the A27/Oving Road junction in the east and the A259 Whyke Road in the west. Feedback is sought on two options:
- Option 1: This would primarily involve widening the existing footway to create a shared use footway and cycleway.
- Option 2: This would introduce advisory cycle lanes along Oving Road. These lanes would extend on the westbound carriageway between the junctions of the A27 Chichester Bypass and Leatherbottle Lane, before switching to the eastbound carriageway between the junctions of Leatherbottle Lane and St James’ Road/Florence Road.

The consultation is open until 11:59pm on Monday, 7 November, 2022.
We are encouraging residents, businesses and users of the B2144 Oving Road corridor to look at the Oving Road consultation pages and tell us what they think of the proposals by completing the online survey. This feedback will be analysed and used to help us develop the designs and determine the next steps for the scheme.
A drop-in event has been arranged to give people the chance to view the proposals in person and speak to members of the project team.
This will be held on Thursday, 20 October, in the Main Hall, Portfield Primary Academy, St James’ Road, Chichester, PO19 7HA, between 4pm and 8pm.
