Free training for frontline staff – fuel poverty and energy efficiency

Do you or your team work with people at risk of fuel poverty?  Would you like to be able to give basic energy efficiency advice?  Our free online training helps you to help the people you work with.

Who is the training for?

Introduction to Energy Use in the Home and Fuel Poverty Awareness is our free, online training, designed for frontline staff and volunteers. Participants come from organisations in the community and voluntary sector, housing, health and social care, child and family support, disability and mental health, and advisory services.

What does the training cover?

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain what fuel poverty is and how it comes about
  • Explain some of the key health and wellbeing impacts of fuel poverty and cold homes
  • Identify factors that impact home energy efficiency
  • Give basic energy advice to improve energy welfare
  • Signpost or refer householders to appropriate support and funding

How will it help my work?

Here’s what some of our recent participants have said:

“Our clients often have fuel worries and I now feel more empowered to support them directly or be able to look for signs of fuel poverty”.

“I feel more confident giving advice to people over the phone or in person, and will refer back to the Toolkit and share with my team”.

“Fuel poverty is an issue for many of our clients and I now have more knowledge of what to advise and when to refer”.

What is included?

The training consists of a morning Zoom webinar (10.00 to approx. 12.15, with a short break), with practical activities to help relate the content to people’s work, and the opportunity to ask questions.  A pdf of the slides, and a Toolkit containing lots of further information and resources, will be emailed to participants after the session, together with their certificate for 2 hours of Continuing Professional Development.  The training is certified by the CPD Certification Service, which says it “offers a very high level of CPD value”.
