From Our Surveys & Programs  /  Economic Census:

The Economic Census is the official five-year measure of American businesses providing comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels. It serves as the benchmark for current economic activity, such as the Gross Domestic Product and Producer Price Index.

The role of GIS in the 2020 Census:

GIS was crucial to a successful 2020 Census at all stages: establishing where to count, inviting all households to participate, engaging local organizations and the public as partners, motivating people to respond, and following up with those who did not respond.
