PTACC Annual Leadership Meeting
At the end of March, PTACC had its annual meeting for our National Leadership Council. We were happy to welcome ONCDP’s Director, Dr. Rahul Gupta, to discuss the Biden administration’s agenda for addressing drug use in the nation. We will also have a lot of exciting projects coming out this year to share with the field- including our Annual Training Summit (more information will be coming soon)!

E-course: Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network
First Responder Deflection: A Warm Handoff to Services in the Community
The Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network (JCOIN) has launched the first-of-its-kind e-Course on deflection-- programs that give police/first responders an alternative to arresting people with substance use disorders. "First Responder Deflection: A Warm Handoff to Services in the Community" is a free online course created under JCOIN, a national initiative led by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). TASC's Center for Health and Justice and George Mason University/s Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence (ACE!) co-developed the course, with key practitioner contributions from the Police, Treatment, and Community Collaborative (PTACC). The 90-minute online course is free; registration is required. Take the course.

Peer-to-peer learning: COSSAP
Overdose Fatality Review Mentor Program Site Selection
Applications to be a mentor due April 30th
Informational meeting for interested applicants:  April 14th at 2:00 pm ET

Overdose fatality reviews (OFRs) effectively identify system gaps and innovative  community-specific overdose prevention and intervention strategies. In practice, OFRs involve a series of individual death reviews by a multidisciplinary team. This process facilitates a deeper understanding of the missed opportunities for intervention that may have prevented an overdose death. Blending input from public health, public safety, providers, and the community, OFR teams develop program and policy recommendations to improve coordination and collaboration between agencies and community conditions to prevent future overdose deaths.

The OFR Mentor Program creates opportunities for OFR team members to learn from experienced peers through direct communication, virtual OFR site visits, and, as appropriate, an in-person visit to see first-hand how it works in practice. The purpose is to promote OFR national standards and build bridges between nascent teams and those with demonstrated success. The OFR mentor sites selected through this application process will serve as models for individuals and teams interested in learning more about the OFR process and innovative practice. Learn more and apply.

Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics and the Justice Systems
Lack of access to timely, high-quality treatment can lead to situations where the individual may require crisis care, engage in behavior that results in law enforcement involvement or result in death by suicide, overdose or other means. While working to ensure public safety and justice, professionals within law enforcement, corrections and courts rarely have the resources to connect people to MH/SU treatment. CCBHCs provide supports that work to ensure evidence-based care is available to prevent incarceration and recidivism. Read the report.

Domestic Violence Prosecutor-Led Diversion Programs
PTACC National Partner, the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys' Domestic Violence Prosecutor-Led Diversion Programs Toolkit is intended to guide prosecutors and program planners through the process of developing a diversion program for domestic violence (DV) cases. This toolkit seeks to provide guidepost questions and considerations for program developers and highlight innovative alternatives to incarceration for DV-related offenses. With the implementation of this toolkit, DV diversion programs can bolster victim safety, prevent recidivism, address the root causes of violence to disrupt the cycle of violence, and create safer communities.
