About the scheme

We built a one-kilometre road linking William Prance Road in Derriford and the Forder Valley Road/Novorossiysk Road junction.

It is a key link between the A38 and the north of the city, where new homes and businesses are planned as Plymouth grows.

The road runs along a new bridge across Bircham Valley, with a larger, relocated signalised junction at the Forder Valley Road/Novorossiysk Road intersection.

It helps to alleviate traffic on the A386 Tavistock Road and Manadon Roundabout, providing an alternative route to the north of the city and key destinations such as Derriford Hospital, the University of St Mark and St John and the Plymouth Science Park. The new link will also improve bus reliability and offers new and improved pedestrian and cycle facilities.

IImprovements were also made at Forder Valley Roundabout to improve traffic flow and access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Together with the Derriford Transport Scheme, Derriford Hospital Interchange, Marjon Link Road and the planned widening of the A386 between Woolwell and The George, this major new infrastructure is key to unlocking growth in the north of Plymouth, where 4,300 new homes and a new district development of shops and community, leisure and health facilities are planned over the next 15 years.

The scheme was opened in September 2022, excluding Platinum Parkway (the new bridge) which opened in February 2023.
