United Renters For Justice/Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia (IX) works for permanently affordable democratic housing and structural changes: tenant unions, rent stabilization, stronger enforcement of renter protections, and community owned housing. The four pillars that make up our organization are Community, Justice, Transformation and Struggling Together.
IX is more than a non-profit. We are a collaboration of tenants from across Minneapolis who come together to push back on the worst excesses of our housing system. We are developing a new idea about what housing is and can be, and we are building it together with our allies: coalition partners, neighbors, donors, and elected officials.

Sometimes one isn’t in the habit of saying, “Great I’m going to help even if it’s not my family,” but I think that everything has changed in my mind. We have to help each other because we’re a community.
“But before purchasing the buildings, before the fight, we were just separate people in each building, in each apartment. Maybe you saw your neighbor, but you didn’t know them, you didn’t know their name, you didn’t chat, nothing. Each person had their own life, and now we’re a family.”
