A program that aims to help people with disabilities save for the future without fear of losing government benefits is thriving under Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague.

When Sprague took office in 2019, the STABLE account program had 9,000 account holders. Today there are 32,000.

Sprague says these numbers show legitimacy to how the program is helping Ohio families all over.

“We were just talking about a young lady who was living at home with mom and dad who has down syndrome. Since getting a stable account, she now works at the local deli, pays for her transportation costs back and forth to the local deli, and works at the YMCA during her off time not with the deli and now has her own apartment," Sprague said.

Another key aspect of the STABLE account is that the money in the account grows tax free -- all without losing benefits such as Medicaid or Social Security.

And it is easy to join. Just click here and sign up. You can also manage your account online.

Sprague says this is a way to help individuals with eligible disabilities finally save for their everyday needs and ultimately gain more independence.
