About Us

About Us

America Saves, a campaign managed by the nonprofit Consumer Federation of America, motivates, encourages, and supports low- to moderate-income households to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. The research-based campaign uses the principles of behavioral economics and social marketing to change behavior. Non‐profit, government, and corporate groups participate in America Saves nationally and through local, regional, and statewide campaigns around the country. America Saves encourages individuals to take the America Saves pledge and organizations to promote savings year-round and during America Saves Week.

America Saves also targets three populations with unique savings needs through:

  • Military Saves – A program of America Saves and a participant in the Department of Defense Financial Readiness Network, which seeks to motivate, support, and encourage military families to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth.
  • America Saves for Young Workers – A program to support and motivate young workers to use direct deposit to save part of their pay through their first-time work experience.
  • America Saves at Work is a program that works directly with employers to help develop and optimize financial wellness and workplace savings programming.
  • Veteran Saves, a program of America Saves, is designed to help veterans and their families build financial stability and security.

Our Values

America Saves is proud of our strategic messaging that motivates savers to take action to save successfully. Our content, resources, and thought-leadership are grounded in the following values:

  • There should be a no shaming and nonjudgmental approach to encouraging people to save.
  • When you focus on building financial confidence, there is space for everyone in the saving and personal finance conversation.
  • Getting a clear view of your finances is the first step to becoming financially confident.
  • Saving automatically is the easiest and most efficient way to save.
  • Saving for your past (reducing debt), present (emergency fund), and future (long term savings such as retirement, education, and homeownership) is essential to overall financial wellness.
  • Saving is a habit, not a destination. Starting with small habits can make a big difference and we celebrate both small wins and big milestones.
  • Financial literacy alone is not enough to increase financial stability.
  • There are internal and external factors that shape a person’s relationship with money. To shift financial behaviors and beliefs, you must address those factors including mental and emotional health, culture, personal values, and systemic barriers.
  • There are many ways to save, and we focus on giving people the information and education they need to “Think Like A Saver.” We know an informed saver is an empowered saver, and an empowered saver can make the best financial decisions for themselves.
  • Saving is not political.

Mission Statement

America Saves empowers all, particularly those who are financially vulnerable, to build financial confidence through effective saving, debt reduction, and wealth-building strategies.

Vision Statement

America Saves' vision is for all Americans to have an account in which they save automatically, successfully, and with at least $500 on hand to meet unexpected expenses.
