Many immigrant students are returning to school amidst the COVID-19 pandemic with increased mental stress and significantly limited support resources. As Pierluigi Mancini (President, Multicultural Development Institute) notes, "It's difficult enough to be an immigrant. Difficult enough to be a student. Racism, discrimination, bias and prejudice make it worse. It increases feelings of anxiety, depression and suicide thoughts."
'How Are You, Really' has partnered with Golden Door Scholars and TheDream.us to share these stories and amplify the injustices immigrants face in our country, while also highlighting their resilience and how many are able to persevere despite these odds. Everyone deserves access to culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health care.
A big thank you to Talkspace for providing free therapy to our immigrant student storytellers, and to Brian Herrera for the captivating artwork.
