Description

Participants will learn to approach Virginia’s vast history from a geographical and cultural perspective while enjoying a mix of exhibit tours, primary source analysis, guest speakers, and self-guided time to explore. Each day of the 1 week program will focus on a specific region of Virginia, and the VMHC team will provide examples of object-based activities, performance-based assessments, and tips and techniques for engaging students of all ages with primary sources. While yearly lecture and activity topics may change slightly, please view last year’s schedule to see the general structure of this program.

This paid institute is open to all K-12 public or private school teachers and includes stipends for all participants in addition to a limited number of travel scholarships.
•    Stipends - Upon successful completion of class requirements, participants will receive a $250 dollar stipend in addition to reimbursement of the $50 registration fee. 
•    Travel Scholarships - A limited number of travel scholarship are available for teachers that live more than 75 miles outside of Richmond, Virginia, and can be used to cover travel and lodging expenses. After registering to attend, please email mcreech@virginiahistory.org to apply. 

The cost to register and hold your spot is $50, which will be refunded upon completion of the class. Materials and lunch are provided free of charge, and participating teachers will be eligible for CEUs and recertification points. Please note, this is a week long institute, lasting Monday through Friday.
