Cybersecurity Summit: Securing Our Solar Future Today

Join the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) and SEIA for a half-day virtual event on Wednesday, November 3, to discuss the critical topic of clean energy cyber and supply chain security. Solar and storage play an increasingly important role in ensuring U.S. energy independence, and now more than ever cybersecurity has become a priority for the industry as these technologies continue to penetrate the grid in record-breaking numbers. 

To tackle this critical topic, SEIA is excited to collaborate with SETO, Idaho National Labs (INL), and other industry partners to work alongside our members to address lessons learned from cyber-attacks, best practices, and ongoing trends that are critical to making solar and storage the most secure fuel on the grid.

For this half-day event we will cover several topics which include:

  • Legislative and regulatory status of key federal and state cybersecurity activities targeted to provide solutions to the latest cyber and security threats
  • Considerations surrounding both mandatory and enforceable voluntary standards that may apply to solar and storage developers
  • Cyber and supply chain guidance that industry can design to develop a leading practice program 

All members and industry players, regardless of their cyber and supply chain maturity levels are encouraged to join and are certain to leave with great ideas to inform their organizational strategies.

This panel will discuss the “paralysis by analysis” effect that our industry faces when creating a cyber and supply chain program within our companies. We will consider what is the gold standard for cyber guidance that industry should be following and how can we better communicate this information across business units and outside industry groups.

SEIA is leveraging the expertise and capabilities of Idaho National Lab (INL) to bring continued renewable sector-specific solutions to SEIA’s members. We will discuss the relevant initiatives being led by INL that can position our members and our industry to lead the way to addressing cyber and supply chain security threats now and in the future. As one of the longest-serving national labs in our nation, INL has led U.S. energy security and industrial competitiveness by ensuring the availability of clean energy and developing improved technologies to protect the environment. SEIA is honored to work with INL and leading on Securing Our Solar Future Today.

Panel 4: Department of Energy and the National Labs Update on Critical Cyber Initiatives  | 4:15-5:15 PM ET

The DOE’s national labs lead and support industry in cutting-edge research to mitigate sophisticated cyberattacks on our critical infrastructure. The labs also engage industry on best practices and take on leadership roles in developing the next generation of industry standards. National Labs are also enhancing industry efforts by leveraging expertise and testing facilities to help inform workgroups as independent technical experts. Highlighted here are national lab efforts that bridge this R&D space with foundational support for industry standards that align with the recently initiated Securing Solar for the Grid (S2G) project.
