Forest Rising

Youth empowerment and environmental action programme

Our approach

We wanted to work with the next generation of leaders, to harnesses youth power, and put young people at the heart of decision making. Over a 9-months we offered a platform for 22 young people to get involved in local action and to influence and inform the creation and running of the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest.

It gave space for young people to develop ideas, learn from environmental leaders, to design woodland habitats and activity they want to see; to sit at the table with decision makers and to implement their ideas to nature recovery, where they live.

Forest Rising is a part of the Plymouth and South Devon Community Forest, in partnership with Plymouth, South Hams and West Devon Councils, National Trust and Woodland Trust.

So far

Completing in Sep 23, this first stage of the programme resulted in, establishing a community of environmental youth leaders, a commitment to form a Community Forest Youth Board, and a future programme of youth designed and led projects, with embedded skills programmes.
