COVID-19 Information

About

The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is committed to providing for the safety and well-being of all inmates in custody. Ensuring inmates incarcerated in Florida’s prisons receive all necessary medical treatment in line with evolving national standards is one of FDC’s top priorities, and a core constitutional responsibility.

FDC began offering COVID-19 vaccines to all inmates April 2021. All inmates are given the opportunity to participate, if eligible per vaccine guidance. If an inmate who previously declined the vaccination, decides they want to receive the vaccine, they may request an appointment to be vaccinated.

FDC COVID tests all newly committed inmates upon intake and offers them the opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

FDC’s Office of Health Services along with contracted medical staff continually educate the inmate population regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. Medical staff visited each dormitory to answer questions and provide an overview of the vaccine, including benefits, potential side effects, as well as the process of scheduling and follow up, if applicable. Additionally, general information related to infectious disease mitigation is posted for staff, inmates and visitors. All normal infectious disease protocols are in effect.
