This year's theme for AmeriCorps Week is "Together, we are AmeriCorps."

Eight members of the organization's National Civilian Community Corps started a support campaign for Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity that began March 7 and is planned to last through April 27.

Those volunteers will help build and restore homes by removing walls, plaster, carpet, wood, windows, cabinets, landscaping and sliding.

One such house started getting its update Monday on Berwick Avenue with homeowner Amanda Funk working alongside them.

"I'm grateful that there are people out there that still care and that still want to help and it just makes me happy," she said.

Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity is expected to work on this and 13 other houses throughout the year.
