High winds knock out power to thousands

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – High winds brought down trees and power lines Sunday afternoon as a thin line of storms moved across central and eastern Kentucky.

Kentucky Utilities’ online outage map showed 717 customers in Lexington without power just before 6 p.m., and another 56 customers in neighboring Bourbon County and 13 in Scott County.

Some roads in Fayette County were temporarily blocked by downed trees.

Blue Grass Energy’s online outage map showed 28 customers in Madison County without power.

Kentucky Power’s online outage map showed 699 customers without electricity with the heaviest concentration around Grayson and Jackson.  The utility showed outages in eight counties in eastern Kentucky stretching from Hazard to Pikeville and beyond.
