ANN ARBOR, MI -- Ann Arbor aims to plant 10,000 trees on private properties by 2030.
The “10,000 Trees Initiative” is part of the city’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 and in doing so, Ann Arbor is offering residents free trees to plant on their property, according to their website. Residents will have to register for a “FreeTree” event, request a tree and pick it up from the distribution site.
Giveaways will began throughout Arbor Day weekend, starting Friday, April 30. Trees for Arbor Day were donated by the Washtenaw County Conservation District and Brines Farm but the city also purchases some.
Residents must register for the program online. Registration closes on Monday, April 26.

- Friday, April 30 from 4-7 p.m. | Bryant Community Center
- Saturday, May 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Peace Neighborhood Center
- Saturday, May 1 from 4-7 p.m. | UM Campus Farm/Matthaei Botanical Gardens
- Sunday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Forestbrooke Athletic Club
- Sunday, May 2 from 4-7 p.m. | Leslie Science & Nature Center
